There’s nothing that brings us more joy than making it possible to sew garments that suit all varying and beautiful shapes. And we abide by the notion that designing on a body figure that looks like you can be empowering and even life changing.

We especially love it when somebody tries our app for the first time and has an incredible experience. In fact we live for it!

This is where Mel comes in. She tried MyBodyModel after hearing about it on a sewing podcast and it has not only ignited her creativity but has cut down tremendously on wasted fabric and time.

She explains:

For Pam it was trying to use fabric that she didn’t really love and then seeing her makes on her actual body. She explains:

“Whether it was a poor color choice or a less-than-flattering silhouette, it was not what I had envisioned when looking at the pattern artwork. Those idealized images are pretty and all, but not representative of the average body.”

But then she came across MyBodyModel and planning future makes with the help of MyBodyModel has her very excited to sew again. Welcome back sewjo!

Thandi is making her handmade wardrobe as a way to take back ownership of her body and learn to love it for what it is rather than what she thinks it should be. At MyBodyModel that’s something that we can get behind 💯

Thandi explains:
“Sewing fosters a new, brighter relationship with my body that I can enjoy, producing garments I can be proud of.”

She goes on to say that one of the unfortunate side-effects of years of trying to hide her body was years of very sad ready-to-wear clothing in large scale floral polyester with enormous buttons. 😱

In addition she has no idea what actually constitutes her personal style.

“Am I a t-shirt and jeans girl? Do I like jumpsuits? Wide legs or skinnies? A-line dresses or gathered waists? All I know right now is that I love stripes, and that’s not terribly helpful. To make it harder to choose a pattern for my curves the garment illustrations on the patterns generally only show “regular” bodies, which isn’t helpful for a very curvy sewist who is already anxious about how clothes look on her body.”

When it comes to sewing, Ciara has learned that he

When it comes to sewing, Ciara has learned that her body is truly unique and no mass-produced croquis is ever going to truly reflect it. Good thing for MyBodyModel’s custom fashion croquis templates using your real body measurements!

Based on the proportions of her unique body she has developed specific preferences for how she prefers to dress. Ciara explains her preferences:

“I don’t think a pronounced sleeve head does my narrow, slightly sloped shoulders any favors. I have a short torso & a prominent belly, so I really prefer waistbands to hit at my natural waist—not too high & not too low. I have long legs, which I think are best showcased by skirts hemmed just above the knee.”

Perfect. Now not only is she aware of her specific proportions, she also knows what she likes and what she doesn’t. She continues:

“I was really impressed with how much my croquis resembled me. I instantly printed out the eight croquis page, because I’m all about rationing paper and I like to see a selection of outfit ideas side-by-side so I can think creatively about how to combine pieces into different outfits. I cracked open my bullet journal to my master list of planned sewing projects & started sketching.”

With a new year comes all the new year’s goals. Using MyBodyModel as a sewing planner is a practical way to visualize what you may want to be wearing and sewing throughout the upcoming year.

With so many great jacket sewing patterns out there, it can be hard to choose where to start! Sierra used her digital MyBodyModel as a virtual fitting room to “try on” the different silhouettes, colors, and fabrics that are on her wishlist – including both neutral and BOLD choices!

Sierra explains:

With the ebbs and flows of life, sometimes we just don’t feel as inspired to pursue our creative endeavors. But it’s how we recover from these dips that make all the difference.

Kelsey had to work herself out of her own creative funk and luckily, she documented the process that she used to get her sew-jo back. For her it was using MyBodyModel to sketch and plan a new me-made capsule wardrobe. Once she dug into the colors, fabrics, and templates, the inspiration began to flow once again.

Here’s what Kelsey had to say:

“But like with everything in life, it’s easy to lose focus and passion for something you once loved. As the year progressed, I found that I wasn’t intentional about what I was making. I found myself jumping from one project to the next and the joy that I had once found while sewing was starting to fade away. I knew something had to shift because I didn’t want to let go of this hobby.”

With the help of MyBodyModel she was able to regroup and spoiler - the result was an assortment of beautiful new sketches and a renewed vigor for her beloved sewing.💕💕
